The Day Before The $h*t Hits the Fan

I had a long heart-to-heart with my 12 yo daughter and husband this morning. We agreed that tomorrow will be the day that we end the junk food eating madness. No more sodas, no more candy, no more fast food ... or as my daughter put it - NO MORE FUN! Well, hopefully that won't be how she feels after a few days of not finding Coca-Colas in the fridge and potato chips in the pantry. My hope is that she'll discover the pleasure of biting into a fresh, locally-grown, organic apple or a slice of juicy organic orange. We'll see. I'm optimistic!

So ... how am I preparing for the big day? The first thing I've done is to clear out the pantry of all the junk. This is a whole lot easier said than done. Do you have any idea how hard it is to toss bags of potato chips and unopened packs of candy bars?! Painful. Tears were shed and cries of "Stop! You can't do that!" were heard throughout the house. I've restocked the pantry with "healthy" treats, I've warned everyone that portion sizes will be limited, I've created a "get fit" workout plan for the family, and I'm finishing up a "fat2fit" menu for the upcoming week. Finally, we've all had our favorite meal, or as my husband might refer to it, our "Last Supper." Hubby opted for a large mushroom pizza from Donato's. Kiddo and I chose some fine dining at Red Lobster. Our bellies are full and we're ready for the final countdown. Hmmm ... maybe I'll dig a Snickers bar out of the garbage before midnight!
